Wall Paper Borders
Painting a room to bring added appeal with a specially chosen
color is the first step to creating just the right setting for any room of your house. Wall paper borders are the
unique addition that really personalizes a room to make it part of your cozy home.
There are a limitless number of styles and designs of borders
to decorate all walls of a room or to just have one or two walls with a border. The most common place to put
a border is near the top of the wall, about two or three inches from the ceiling or a more eye level positioning
about four or five feet from the floor. Although these may be common, don’t feel restricted to these
suggestions. If you have a room that you think would look better with the border placed 2 feet from the
ceiling, then go with your own personal preferences. Depending on what other things are in the room you may
want to coordinate the positioning more with the existing, or planned, room accessories, which could make the
border more appropriate in any place on the wall.
There are different heights of borders that you can take into
account. Borders can get as tall as 12-14 inches and as short as 3 inches to have a wide range of decorating
options. The biggest borders look best near the bottom of the wall, while the shorter borders are most
suitable at the top or middle. However, there are exceptions to that rule and you should never feel stuck to
place a border in a certain area just because that’s the norm. Some of the best looking rooms go against many
of the “norm” decorating rules to be better coordinated, or in appealing contrast to, the other elements in the
room. Your home decorating is a creative outlet for you and your family, so it should represent some of your
personal preferences that may go against the suggested placement or color coordination.
Whether you want a sophisticated and serene style border or a
fun child themed printed border, you will surely find something that suits your needs. There is such a wide
selection of designs, whether you’re looking online or walking into a store that sells wallpaper and borders that
you may actually find it hard to narrow down your choices. When choosing a border for a child’s room, keep in
mind that some of the licensed characters may not be as appealing 6 months or a year later, so it may be a good
idea to not choose a print that is more trendy than decorative, or won’t be as age appropriate before you’d care to
redecorate.
Wall paper borders can add so much to a room and are fairly
easy to apply that they work great in any setting. Some borders are self-adhesive while others need a
wallpaper paste applied to them to be adhered to the wall. In either situation it’s a simple way to add a
personalizing element that adds interest and intrigue to your home.
